An introduction to our blog from Councillor Vikki Slade:
This blog updates you about our important project to improve the council’s website presence.
BCP Council was created on 1 April 2019. In readiness, we developed a ‘signposting’ website, www.bcpcouncil.gov.uk, with links to online service information and transactions across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole held primarily on the websites that already existed for the previous councils. This is because we had a limited amount of time to create BCP Council, and consequently most service areas and digital platforms were not aligned on day one.
We have been working since April 2019 on bringing service delivery, standards and policies together. As that happens across the council, it creates an opportunity to review the way our website works and the information contained within it, and to introduce a single high quality website for the whole council.
We know that people expect good online access to services and information, and that the concept of ‘traditional’ office hours no longer meets those expectations. Therefore, we all recognise the importance of improving our website, using the latest technology, and developing the digital skills and knowledge within BCP Council. This means we can keep pace with the rapidly advancing digital world in which we live.
As a modern, accessible and accountable council committed to providing effective community leadership, we recognise that we cannot do this alone. We are committed to designing our online services and experiences with residents, local businesses and visitors as well as collaborating with other public bodies. This will help us fully understand how they want to access our services and information online so that we can build our new website to meet their needs.
We will use our blog to keep you informed about what we’re working on. This means we will be open about the work we are doing. It will also increase the potential for collaborating with other councils who may be experiencing common challenges, or may have identified their own solutions that we can learn from.
Let’s build something together
We’re looking for people to join our digital engagement group and help us co-design our website content. Would you like to help us improve our website?
